Dear Sir,
I am very interested in looking at 'plagiarism' in academic essay in English. When I was an
undergraduate student in one uniersity in Taiwan, I didn't know I have to acknowledge the origin
of the statements which I took from others. My professors didn't give me any punishment and
suggestions that I had better to acknowledge the origins right after the statement rather than only
put the original resource in the reference pages. However, at the moment I am doing my MA in
England. The first thing I learnt here was the concept of 'plagiarism'. I was warned to acknowlege
where does every statement taken from others come from, otherwise, I will be kicked out of the
school due to the strict regulation. This inspired me to look at the culture differences between Taiwanese
students and students from other countries in writing English academic essays.
I will much appreciate if you can kindly offer your comments!
Minnie Chang
